On February 25, 2013, it became known that several courts in Chuvashia sentenced Orthodox activists, who blocked traffic in November 2012 to protest against the introduction of a universal electronic card, to compulsory labor of up to 40 hours and fines of up to 50 thousand rubles.
“Today, the courts have decided to impose a fine on seven citizens and on 14 - on the assignment of compulsory labor. Fines - from 10 to 50 thousand rubles, compulsory work - from 20 to 40 hours. But not all materials have been considered yet,” explained Leonid Chernov, representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Chuvashia.
