In St. Petersburg, a case has been brought to court against nationalists who planted a pig's head and a dummy explosive device near a mosque.

On April 18, 2013, it became known that a criminal case against local residents Vladimir Smirnov and Igor Esbotaev had been sent to the Petrogradsky District Court of St. Petersburg for consideration on the merits. The Petrograd District Prosecutor's Office approved the indictment under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity).

According to investigators, in September 2012, Smirnov and Esbotaev in St. Petersburg made a dummy of an improvised explosive device and planted it at the gates of the St. Petersburg Cathedral Mosque (Kronverksky Prospekt, 7).

Smirnov was detained by law enforcement officers at the crime scene, and Esbotaev was exposed during the preliminary investigation.

Let us recall that V. Smirnov was previously prosecuted, including for crimes of a violent nature, as well as for inciting hatred and participation in illegal arms trafficking.
