The director of the Miass school went on a hunger strike in protest against accusations of “instilling religion”

On April 24, 2013, Elena Cheshuina, the former director of school No. 15 in the city of Miass, Chelyabinsk region, who was accused of “instilling religion in school,” sent an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation and went on a hunger strike.

According to her, “for almost a year now, various media outlets have been writing that she forces people to believe and perform all kinds of religious rituals <...> and on this basis incites religious discord between people of the Orthodox and other faiths.”

E. Cheshuina considers such information to be slander.

Let us recall that in March 2013, parents of schoolchildren filed an application with the Miass City Court, in which they indicate that the school “ under the guise of an elective course “Fundamentals of Orthodox Culture”” is “propaganda of religion .”
