Ilkhom Merazhov addressed the President of Russia

April 25, 2013 Ilkhom Merazhov, Associate Professor, Siberian University of Consumer Cooperatives and an imam accused under Part 1 of Art. 282.2 (organization of activities of extremist organization), turned to the President of Russia on a "straight line" with a request protect his civil rights.

He drew the president's attention to the fact that " the activities religious figures - official imams I. Merazhov and K. Odilov, preaching the traditional religion of Islam, is equated by law enforcement agencies with extremist activity ." Thus, according to I. Merakhov, “ in The Russian Federation has created a legal mechanism of repression, through which it is possible to recognize the organization as extremist [as was done with Nurcalar], and then prosecute any citizen allegedly involved to create such an organization.

“At the same time, a citizen does not have any legal defense mechanisms against such an accusation ,” he concluded.
