Russian intelligence agencies were interested in the Tsarnaevs two years before the attack

Back in 2011, Russian intelligence services recorded a telephone conversation between Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, the mother of the Boston terrorists, and one of her sons. Details of the conversation are unknown, but the conversation discusses jihad “in vague terms,” the BBC reports.

Russian intelligence services handed over the recording to their American colleagues as part of the investigation into the terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon. The recording was made in 2011, as Russian intelligence services suspected the Tsarnaevs of radical Islamic views, and even asked the FBI to check the brothers. The check did not reveal anything suspicious then.

Chechen-born brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who emigrated to the United States, are accused in the States of organizing the Boston Marathon bombings . The explosions killed three people and injured about 180. Tsarnaev Sr. died in the shootout, Dzhokhar was detained after a long pursuit . He is now in the hospital, American law enforcement agencies are conducting an investigation. Tsarnaev has been charged with organizing a terrorist attack.
