On May 9, 2013, in the center of Chelyabinsk, near the Aloe Pole square, the police detained two groups of young people, and thus a mass brawl was stopped. Nearly 30 young people were detained. The police seized sticks, bats, mallets, traumatic weapons, gas cartridges from the detainees.
Among the detainees are members of the St. Petersburg rock band Brigadir, fans returning from their concert, and a group of local residents. Information about the mass detention was confirmed by the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for the Chelyabinsk Region. The cause of the conflict, according to the police, was the rejection by Chelyabinsk residents of the musical style of the St. Petersburg rock band.
An activist of the Civil Movement of the Young Urals, blogger Taras Esakov said that the conflict is based on the confrontation between the ultra-left (anti-fascists) and the ultra-right (nationalists). “ Activists – autonomists were walking from the concert of the group “Brigadier” in a group of 30 people. In the city center, they were stopped by the police for a check. Every far-left activist had an arsenal of gas cartridges and improvised means for self-defense. The police called the squads for additional checks. While the squads were traveling, the ultra-right pulled up to the place of inspection, and began to conduct a rather peculiar political discussion with the ultra-left. A rocket from a rocket launcher flew towards the autonomies from the side of the ultra-right youth , ”the blogger reports.
