On May 21, 2013, in Volgograd, unknown persons beat the hieromonk Gerontius (Potapov), who was returning home “in working clothes” (apparently, speech is about the cassock - Ed.) .

“It was noticeable that they were waiting for him and, noticing, immediately pounced. There were at least ten attackers. Hieromonk Gerontius born a Cossack and never hid his patriotic views , ”said about the incident ataman Vladimir Golovko.

The hooligans did not comment on their actions, but the priest did not rules out that the attackers could have been nationalists or satanists. Cossacks suggest that the attack could be related to the upcoming Ataman elections and pre-election struggle of the Cossack organizations. Moreover, it is not excluded that the beating was carried out on the order of the "healers".

The attack on the priest gave ataman V. Golovko a reason to turn in his blog “to adult male Volgograd residents (primarily to athletes, former employees of various law enforcement agencies, officers) of the Orthodox Confession” with a call to create on a voluntary basis a “detachment self-defense of believers" .

A criminal case has been initiated into the attack.
