June 17, 2013 human rights center of the World Russian People's Cathedral appealed to the prosecutor's office with a demand to recognize as extremist western-made cartoon "Judas and Jesus" (2009, dir. Olaf Encke and Claudia Romero, Germany - Ed.) . Orthodox believe cartoon is blasphemous and demand to ban its distribution.
“Fortunately, the precedent for recognizing foreign content extremist in Russia already exists - we are talking about the film "Innocence Muslims" , - said the head of the human rights center VRNS Roman Silantyev. in his opinion, "Judas and Jesus" is made "on a similar artistic level" , however, offensive "to a much greater extent" .
"Judas and Jesus" is widely represented on the Internet. This is a rather traditional work for the “cartoon for adults” genre, which, in our opinion, does not have any special artistic merit, but differs in pornographic scenes (indeed, young children should be protected from watching a cartoon). However, we did not find any calls for violent actions in this work. It is more likely to be seen as a humiliation of dignity. Recall that the SOVA Center advocates the decriminalization of humiliation of human dignity on various group grounds, including attitudes towards religion.
