Sentence for materials on the VKontakte network

On August 23, 2013, the Oktyabrsky District Court of Irkutsk passed a verdict under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity) in a criminal case against local resident Dmitry Zuev.

According to investigators, since 2010, Zuev has been distributing extremist materials on the Internet. On his personal page on the social network VKontakte, he posted videos “ containing profanity, which, according to an expert opinion, contain expressions conveying a hostile, hostile or aggressive attitude towards representatives of other nationalities .” Also on his page, he posted photographs with the inscription “Russian March” against the backdrop of the imperial flag and the website address of the interregional public organization “Movement against Illegal Immigration,” which was recognized by the Moscow City Court as an extremist organization.

These materials remained freely available until March 2013 and were blocked by the site administration at the request of law enforcement agencies.

The criminal case was considered in a special procedure for judicial proceedings (see the certificate of the SOVA Center “Special procedure for judicial proceedings ”).

The court found Zuev guilty of committing the crime charged and sentenced him to 5 months of correctional labor with the deduction of 10% of his earnings to the state income.
