On August 27, 2013, it became known that Roskomnadzor issued a warning to the editors and founder of the Chelyabinsk TV channel “Kanal TV” for using the media to carry out extremist activities in connection with the “distribution of an insert in the Telefact news release” dated July 31, 2013. Let us recall that on July 31, 2013, the news broadcast on the channel was interrupted, and a video was broadcast for several minutes, which was a clip from the 2010 documentary film “Russia: the Age of Putin” and a story from the Georgian Russian-language TV channel PIK about Putin’s return to the presidency in 2012 . The saboteur turned out to be one of the channel’s directors, who immediately submitted his resignation letter of his own free will. The channel's management threatened to contact law enforcement agencies to initiate a criminal case for hooliganism.

From our point of view, the warning was issued to the channel unlawfully. The video listed events and phenomena in Russia during Putin's reign, which usually serve as the basis for his criticism in opposition circles. This material did not contain any signs of extremism.
