Warning issued for comic TV segment about Karelian currency

On September 12, 2013, Roskomnadzor reported that at the beginning months, the department issued a warning about the inadmissibility of violation legislation on combating extremist activities of the editorial office and the founder of the TV company "Sampo" (Petrozavodsk) for dissemination in the news release of information about the introduction to territory of the Republic of Karelia of the national currency (violation of the integrity Russian Federation).

We are talking about a comic story with the participation of activists of the Free Karelia", who printed Karelian "runes" for tourists and limited use at art events. Action for the release of "money" with the image of the heroes of the epic "Kalevala", fragments of paintings by the Finnish painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela and Karelian artist Tamara Yufa was dedicated to the next anniversary of the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Karelia, published by the Parliament of the Republic on August 9, 1990. Then Parliament announced it's intention to build a legal, democratic, sovereign state within the RSFSR and the USSR.

Movement "Free Karelia" emphasizes that it is not separatist, but regionalist, that is, stands for "civil self-government and cultural identity of the region" , and the public conducts activities "only by peaceful non-violent methods, entirely within the framework of the Constitution of the Republic of Karelia, the Constitution of the Russian Federation and international law" .

From our point of view, in this case, the fears of Roskomnadzor regarding a possible threat to the integrity of Russia are groundless.
