Yakut separatist fined for calls to extremism

In November 2013, a resident of Yakutia was fined for calls for the secession of the republic from Russia, made on the VKontakte social network.
A 25-year-old man was convicted under Part 1 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls for extremist activities) and was fined 15 thousand rubles for calls for the separation of Yakutia from Russia.

On the social network VKontakte, he created a closed group of “nationalist leanings”, in which about 600 people signed up. According to the FSB, “ according to the plan of the group’s creator, the Yakut youth was supposed to stage a revolution .” Some members communicated with young people from Turkey and Azerbaijan - supporters of the creation of a unified Turkic state of Great Turan.

The convict repented of committing the crime.

Unfortunately, we do not know the content of the incriminated statements, so we do not know how lawful the verdict was.

Another member of the group, a 23-year-old resident of the regional capital, was previously convicted. He was found guilty under Part 1 of Art. 280 and according to Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity) and was sentenced to 1 year of correctional labor with deduction of 15 percent of wages and a fine of 15 thousand rubles.
