In the Stavropol region, a “Tahrirovite” received 17 years in prison for preparing a terrorist attack

The Stavropol Regional Court sentenced a citizen of Tajikistan to 17 years in prison for preparing a terrorist attack in Stavropol. This man had previously served time for collaborating with Hizb ut-Tahrir.

On April 3, 2014, the Stavropol Regional Court sentenced citizen of Tajikistan Abdurakhim Toshmatov. He was found guilty under Part 1 of Art. 30, part 1 art. 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for a terrorist attack) and Part 1 of Art. 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (involvement in the commission of crimes of a terrorist nature or other assistance in their commission).

The court sentenced him to 17 years in a maximum security colony and a fine of 55 thousand rubles.

The court found that A. Toshmatov kept ammunition at home and was preparing a terrorist attack in Stavropol, which he intended to commit in May 2013.

Previously, A. Toshmatov served 1 year of imprisonment for cooperation with Hizb ut-Tahrir (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, participation in the activities of an extremist organization). He was also prosecuted under Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal arms trafficking).

Let us note that the ideology of Hizb ut-Tahrir presupposes a fundamental renunciation of terrorist actions, but we have no reason to doubt the validity of this verdict against A. Toshmatov.
