Kazan: sentence handed down for xenophobic graffiti

On May 7, 2014, the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan delivered a sentence against 25-year-old Dmitry Rozhkov. He was found guilty under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity).

The court and the investigation found that in March 2013 in Kazan, Rozhkov, on the territory of the Medical University, wrote obscene inscriptions on the wall of the boiler room and the concrete fence using an aerosol can of paint. According to the conclusion of the examination, "this information is aimed at inciting interethnic hatred and enmity, as well as at humiliating the dignity of a person and a group on the basis of nationality, language and origin, in addition, it incites violent actions."

The accused pleaded guilty. The investigator chose a measure of restraint against him in the form of a written undertaking not to leave and proper behavior.

The World Court sentenced Rozhkov to 6 months of corrective labor with a deduction of 20% to the state income.
