A student of a medical university from Astrakhan complained about a ban on wearing Muslim clothing not only in the classroom, but also in the hostel. Decree the rector forbids wearing clothes and signs indicating belonging to any religion.
On June 24, 2014, it became known that a student of the Astrakhan state medical academy complained of discrimination due to wearing a Muslim headscarf.
One of the students told in social networks about the order of the rector, regulating the appearance of students and teachers. According to this decree, wearing Muslim headscarves is prohibited not only on the territory of the educational institutions, but also in the hostel.
In addition, a student wearing a Muslim clothes are “written on the lists” , reports are made on such people, and then “they give reprimands at the disciplinary commission" .
Dean of the Faculty of International Students Olga Dyakova, commenting on the situation in a conversation with journalists, she said: “We have a secular educational institution. We have students who have a lot of different religions, and, accordingly, we, as a secular educational institution, do not give preference. More precisely, we prefer a secular way of life and business style in clothes. And what about the girls, you ask the girls and religious figures. No one forbids them to go to the temple or to the mosque, but not to within the framework of a secular educational institution .
