The patriarch's confessor saw proselytism in the anti-drug activities of Protestants

The well-known confessor Schema-Archimandrite Iliy (Nozdrin) resigned from the supervisory board of the National Anti-Drug Union due to the influence of unnamed religious groups, in his opinion, trying to convert Orthodox Christians to their faith.

On December 7, 2014, the confessor of Optina Hermitage and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', Schema-Archimandrite Iliy (Nozdrin), sent a letter to members of the supervisory board of the National Anti-Drug Union (NAU) in which he announced his resignation from the NAS board.

As the reason for this step, he indicated “the fact that this organization is under the influence of religious groups that use the opportunities of anti-drug activities to convert Orthodox Christians to their faith.”

The elder did not indicate which religious groups are trying to convert the Orthodox, but the US council includes many Protestants. At the same time, the organization, as reported on its website, “does not have any political or religious orientation.”
