Representatives of the Cheboksary Muslim community “Nadezhda” appealed to V. Putin with a request to take personal control of the situation with the ban on wearing Muslim headscarves in educational institutions of Mordovia.
On December 29, 2014, it became known that the local religious organization of Muslims “Nadezhda” from Cheboksary sent an appeal to the President of the Russian Federation with a request to intervene in the situation with the ban on wearing Muslim clothing in educational institutions in some regions.
We are talking about the decree of the government of Mordovia banning the wearing of religious clothing in schools, after which many Muslims began to complain about conflicts between schoolgirls and students with the leadership of educational institutions.
Representatives of the Cheboksary community believe that this resolution violates several provisions of the Constitution, in particular the right to freedom of conscience and religion. In addition, such a ban contradicts the law “On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations.”
“Today, legally, there are no federal laws that would prohibit wearing a headscarf. Some consider it religious symbolism, others – a national tradition. However, due to the ignorance of some officials, incidents of this kind are happening literally throughout the country. One gets the impression that some officials are deliberately carrying out full-scale, purposeful, non-stop activities aimed at discrediting Islam in Russia,” says Rashid Galeev, head of the Nadezhda MROM.
The appeal from Cheboksary Muslims asks them to take the problem under personal control, “to protect the violated rights and freedoms of Russian Muslim women,” to give a legal assessment of the situation and to “bring the guilty officials” to justice.
