The Council of Muftis asks to check media that offends the feelings of Muslims

The head of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gaynutdin asks the prosecutor's office to check the media for insulting the religious feelings of Muslims.

January 16, 2014 Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin sent a statement to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika with a request to check websites and the media “for the presence of publications discrediting Prophet Mohammed and the Religious Sentiments of Muslims.

The reason for the appeal was reprinted cartoons on the Prophet Muhammad and the publication of negative texts about him.

Similar materials the appeal says, “aimed at inciting religious hatred, at the formation of distorted ideas about Islam and the followers of this Abrahamic religion of Monotheism, thereby violating the rights, freedoms and legal interests of Muslim citizens of Russia”.

R. Gainutdin believes that “it is necessary take measures to curb the uncontrolled distribution of offensive religious feelings of provocative materials, in order to prevent negative consequences destabilizing the situation”.

In turn, the Council muftis, according to his head, considers “his direct duty is education in believers of religious tolerance and tolerance, in a multinational and multi-confessional Russia. Sources
