Victor Sonkin will perform in House 12

On Thursday, January 22, in the Moscow Club “House 12” as part of the cycle of evenings “Poems about me” will be a philologist-Slavist and translator Viktor Sonkin.

Viktor Sonkin worked for several years as a synchronist translator in one of the UN units. He also translates the works of modern British and American authors, among them the Flobert Parrot Julian Barnes and the Black Swan Nassim Taleb.

He leads a seminar on artistic translation at the philological faculty of Moscow State University, the participants of which were prepared by the famous anthologies of the detective novel “Not only Holmes” and “Not the Butler”. Sonkin also gives lectures on ancient history and other exciting items for a variety of audiences - from younger schoolchildren to English -speaking pensioners.

In 2013, Viktor Sonkin became the laureate of the Enlightener Prize in the nomination “Humanitarian Sciences” for the book “There was Rome” .

“Poems about me in house 12” are meetings with people without whom it is impossible to imagine today's cultural landscape, artists, poets, musicians, journalists - who will tell about their favorite verses and read them. The program is dedicated to the writer and journalist Peter Weil, who would have turned 65 this year. “Poems about me” is the name of his book, which included 55 of the most important poems of the twentieth century and thoughts about them.

Among the project participants are poets Anatoly Nayman, Andrei Rodionov and Elena Fanailova, architect Alexander Brodsky, musician Oleg Nesterov, philologist Roman Timenchik and many others.
