The artist Mikhail Kulakov died

On Sunday, February 15, in Italy at the age of 82, abstract artist Mikhail Kulakov died.

Mikhail Alekseevich Kulakov was born in Moscow in 1933, studied for two years at the Moscow Institute of International Relations, in 1963 he graduated from the production faculty of the Leningrad State Theater, Music and Cinema named after N.K. Cherkasov.

In 1976 he emigrated to Italy, lived in San Vito Di Narni in Umbria. In 1984 he was awarded the title of Honored Member of the Academy of Arts. Pietro Vannucci in Peruja, in 2003 he was awarded the gold medal of the XXVII International Award "Emigration".

A new language, technique, original interaction of color, shape, space, movement - in many aspects, Mikhail Kulakov was a pioneer. However, as a representative of the unofficial Soviet avant -garde, an artist in the USSR was practically not exhibited. Abroad, his personal exhibitions were held in Rome, in New York, Vienna, Munich. In Rome, Kulakov’s mosaic panels adorn two metro stations.

In his homeland, Mikhail Kulakov was recognized only in the late 80s. Its first personal exhibition opened in 1989, and in 2008 a large retrospective was held in the Tretyakov Gallery with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture in Russia, Kommersant notes. Now the artist’s works are in the meetings of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts.
