The trial in the case of the production of Tannhäuser has begun in Novosibirsk

In Novosibirsk, the trial began in the case of "blasphemous" staging of Wagner's opera. The experts who spoke in court did not see in the performance insults to religious symbols.

March 10, 2015 World Court of the Central Judicial District Novosibirsk began consideration of the case on the production of Wagner's opera "Tannhäuser", outraged by the Orthodox.

Recall, the director of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater Timofei Kulyabin and the director of this theater Boris Mezdrich are charged under Part 2 of Art. 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (deliberate public desecration of a religious or liturgical literature, objects of religious worship, signs or emblems worldview symbols and paraphernalia, or their damage or destruction).

The experts who spoke in court did not see in the performance insults to religious symbols. In the conclusion of a religious scholar from Moscow State University Vladimir Vinokurov says that “The production does not contain the gospel image of Christ, because the gospel image of Christ is true, and the image of Christ in the setting is artifice".

Associate Professor of the Study Center of Religions of the Russian State Humanitarian University Boris Falikov emphasized that one cannot identify the author and character that the religious symbols used in the performance were represented in an artistic context, and therefore are not sacred.   Sources
