Perm: the author of the article “Hysteria in Pugachev’s style” was convicted, but amnestied

In March 2015 in Perm to 1.5 years in prison conditionally and a ban on journalism, the court sentenced Roman Yushkov, author of the xenophobic article "Pugachev-style hysteria".

In March 2015, a sentence was passed in Perm against a member Perm Regional Human Rights Center and journalist Roman Yushkov.

Recall that he was accused of   incitement of national hatred (part 1 of article 282 of the Criminal Code) and public calls for extremism (part 2 of article 280 of the Criminal Code) in connection with the publication by him of a xenophobic articles "Hysteria in Pugachev's way" on the pages of the regional newspaper "Zvezda". In February, the article was declared extremist.

The court removed the charge against R. Yushkov under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code, considering it unfounded, but found guilty under Art. 280 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 1.5 years suspended sentence and a ban on journalism for 2 of the year.

Neither the defense nor the prosecution agreed with the verdict and appealed against it.

On May 21, 2015, the Perm Regional Court refused to satisfy both complaints, but at the same time released R. Yushkov from punishment in connection with the amnesty in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Victory.

Recall that the criminal the fact of the appearance of the article was initiated in July 2013 year, and later, in March 2014, R. Yushkov was charged under Art. 280 CC and Art. 282 of the Criminal Code. In June 2014, the case was referred to the court for consideration on the merits, but almost immediately returned for further investigation , the reason for which there were violations in the case, which the lawyer of the accused pointed out to the court. Only in 2015, R. Yushkov was charged again and the case was again went to court.
