Blocking of the Kasparov.Ru website was appealed to the ECHR

Garry Kasparov is looking for justice in Strasbourg.

On April 2, 2015, it became known that Garry Kasparov applied to the European Court of Human Rights with a complaint about the blocking of his website in March 2014.

Recall that access to the Kasparov.Ru website was closed by Roskomnadzor at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office in accordance with Lugovoy's law. The Prosecutor General's Office found that the material posted on the site contained calls for participation in mass riots. An attempt to challenge the blocking in the district court was unsuccessful.

In the complaint of Kasparov, whose interests in the ECtHR represented by the lawyer of the association "Agora" Damir Gaynutdinov, it was noted that that blocking the site violates Art. 10 of the European Convention on the Protection of Rights human being because it violates the right to freedom of speech. Closing access to the site was not based on law and did not pursue a legitimate aim, complete blocking a site cannot be considered necessary in a democratic society. The applicant draws attention to the fact that the site was not unblocked even after of how the publication was edited, which caused complaints from the Prosecutor General's Office. Article 15.3 of the information law, based on the "law Lugovoy", as the applicant notes , "is formulated so uncertain that it is extremely difficult to determine in advance whether specific publication as a reason for blocking and whether the authorities will require block an individual publication or the entire site as a whole " .
