In Perm, the author of the graffiti "Gagarin. Crucifixion" was summoned to the prosecutor's office

On April 12, 2015, on Easter and Cosmonautics Day, a graffiti depicting Yuri Gagarin crucified on the cross was placed on one of the high-rise buildings in Perm.

The author of the composition, Alexander Zhunev, comments on his work as follows: “ Science and religion have long been on opposite sides of the barricades, trying to win back their share of influence on the minds. The work "Gagarin. Crucifixion" is my attempt to speak about this centuries-old confrontation in the language of contemporary art ."

On April 13, 2015, at the initiative of the Vice Speaker of the Perm City Duma, Yuri Utkin, an audit was launched. According to Yu. Utkin, placing a picture on the wall of a building is an act of vandalism.

“ This work offended not only me, but also many residents of Perm. Despite the fact that I am on vacation, I received a lot of calls with complaints. If you carefully study the Criminal Code, it will become clear that this is a violation of public order,” he said.

On the same day, employees of the management company Perm Comfort Model washed away the graffiti, and the artist was called to the police.

“ As far as I understand, they want to take this to the religious and cultural experts to see if it's really an insult or if it's art. And whether the Orthodox will be offended by this work. Well, apparently, now they will order this examination. Then decide on the article , ” said A. Zhunev.

On April 16, 2015, the artist was summoned to the prosecutor's office.
