Administrative prosecution of Crimean News

The news agency Crimean News (QHA) is accused of "distributing information about extremist organizations."

On April 22, 2015, it became known that with respect to news agency "Crimean News" (QHA) drew up a protocol on administrative offense.

Employees of the ETC for Crimea considered it an offense that agency " disseminated information about extremist organizations banned in RF ".

QHA Director Gayana Yuksel said that information about such organizations was presented on the website of the agency before 2014, and announced intention to file an objection in court.

In 2015, the Crimean News agency was denied permission to registration in the Russian Federation and from April 1 moved the office to Kyiv.

According to Art. 4 of the Law "On the Mass Media" in the Russian Federation it is prohibited to disseminate information about banned organizations without indicating that they have been liquidated or that their activities are prohibited, but there is no ban on mentioning them at all.

It should be noted that information about extremist organizations banned in the Russian Federation was disseminated by the agency not only before the relevant decisions were made by the Russian court, but also before the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Federation, that is, it does not fall under Russian jurisdiction.
