The Udmurt Metropolitan spoke out against the construction of a crematorium in Izhevsk

The Udmurt metropolitan asks the authorities of the republic to abandon construction of a crematorium in Izhevsk, as this is contrary to the Orthodox traditions.

On July 8, 2015, it became known that the Metropolitan of Izhevsk and Udmurt Victorin appealed to the head of the Udmurt Republic Alexander Solovyov with a call to prevent the construction of a crematorium in Izhevsk.

In his address, he says that the church with understanding refers to cremation in cases where it is necessary to transport deceased over long distances or when burial in the ground is not provided secular law. In the absence of such reasons, cremation, according to Metropolitan, may be associated with concentration camp crematoria during the Second world war.

The bishop asks to prevent the construction of a crematorium in Izhevsk, noting: “This is not my personal concern, but the concern of all Orthodox residents of the Udmurt Republic" .
