On July 9, 2015, in Voronezh, in Yuzhny Park, a protest was held against the construction of the temple.
In time, the event was timed to coincide with the Moscow action in the Torfyanka park. About 20 people took part in the action, among them representatives of Yabloko and Trudovoy Voronezh. Many of the protesters were holding signs: “Let's stop the arbitrariness!”, “Parks for children! Not for temples”, “Do not give up on our park”, “We are not against temples, we are against temples in parks”, “No parasites to business! Nature - life", "Trees also want to live. The park is for the kids!
“ 1.5 hectares of land were allocated for construction ,” one of the protesters told reporters. - This is the greenest place in the park. Birch trees grow there, which in their youth were planted now by very old grandparents. There were even a few pine trees left from the grove, which the landowner planted even under serfdom. These trees are very old. The diocese promised to plant new ones. But you understand how much they will grow. In 1942, when our city was fighting off the Germans, the general forbade the Red Army soldiers to cut down trees for the needs of the army. He understood how important they were. And in our time they are cut down for the sake of the church, at the moment when we are told about patriotism .”
Public hearings were held at the end of 2013. According to local residents, no one knew about them.
Enterprising citizens appealed to the diocese, the governor, the city administration and the prosecutor's office with a request not to allow construction in the park, and to find another place for the temple.
