Participants in the conference of the Public Organization “Committee against torture” (checkpoint) on Friday decided to liquidate the organization, Interfax reports . “At the conference, most of the delegates spoke out for the liquidation of the organization,” the agency Igor Kalyapin quoted the words of the chairman of the checkpoint. Within three days, the NGO will send an appropriate application to the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation.

However, Igor Kalyapin and his colleagues do not intend to stop their work. On Monday, they will discuss in what quality they will continue human rights activities in the future. “We will discuss, and we will voice the results at a press conference at the Interfax press center in Moscow on July 28,” he said.

Recall that on January 16, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation included the “Committee against torture” in the register of NKO-foreign agents. The reason for this was the idea of ​​the prosecutor of the Nizhny Novgorod region about the violation by the organization of federal legislation. In particular, the prosecutor's office considered that the organization is involved in political activities. The checkpoint tried to challenge the actions of the Ministry of Justice in court, but the courts supported the decision of the department.

In July, the Office of the Roskomnadzor for the Volga Federal District drew up a protocol on an administrative offense for the distribution of leaflets without mentioning that the checkpoint is a “foreign agent”. In addition, last Wednesday, one of the main donors of the “Committee against torture”, the American charitable organization of the Makanturov Foundation, announced.

The headquarters of the “Committee against torture” is located in Nizhny Novgorod, representative offices operate in the republics of Mari El and Bashkiria. In addition, the checkpoint has a branch in the Orenburg region, also operates a Moscow branch. Since 2009, a mobile group of human rights activists has been working in the Chechen Republic under the auspices of the Committee.
