Residents of Novorossiysk are protesting against the construction of a cathedral near the Sudzhuk Lagoon.
On December 6, 2015, a rally took place in Novorossiysk against the construction of the St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral near the Sudzhuk Lagoon.
According to the protesters, the proximity of the temple complex to the Malaya Zemlya memorial and the Sudzhuk Lagoon will significantly disrupt the proportions of the memorial and “put an end to a unique natural monument.”
The event was organized by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. The protesters held posters: “We are against the construction of a temple complex on Malaya Zemlya. Don't take the last one! There are many places where you can build,” “Nature is also a temple.”
Orthodox citizens gathered next to the protesters with other posters: “Whoever puts obstacles in the way of churches lobby for gay pride parades,” “Novorossiysk for the construction of the temple,” “Let’s protect the cathedral,” “Let’s build the temple with the whole world,” “We won’t let the 30s repeat.” !”, “The temple is not being built on a protected area.”
