In Chita, they began collecting signatures against the transfer of the diocese to the “Church of the Decembrists.” When the collection of signatures is completed, the petition will be sent to the President of the Russian Federation.
On December 24, 2015, it became known that residents of Chita began collecting signatures against the transfer of the Decembrist Museum building to the Church. The signatures support the petition drawn up by Victoria Izmailova. This text will be sent to Vladimir Putin after the collection of signatures is completed.
“ We earnestly ask you ,” the text says, “ to resolve the issue of ownership of the Decembrist Church in favor of the museum once and for all. With all due respect to the religious feelings of believers, we must remember that religious views should not be a cause of discord in society, a reason to ignore the law and common sense and violate someone’s rights .”
The petition also states that “ the Cossacks have never had a direct relationship with this church ” and that “ the majority of the population of the [Trans-Baikal] region does not consider themselves believers .”
Let us recall that on December 21, 2015, the Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Konstantin Ilkovsky, announced that the transfer of the controversial object to the diocese is possible only after a new building is built for the Museum of the Decembrists.
