Residents of Novorossiysk again discussed the construction of St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral near the Malaya Zemlya memorial. Opponents of the construction are ready to appeal to the prosecutor's office and local authorities.
January 12, 2016 in Marine cultural center of Novorossiysk hosted a round table dedicated to construction of St. Nicholas Naval Cathedral near the Sudzhuk lagoon.
The event was attended about 200 people - ecologists, deputies, representatives youth and clergy (including the local bishop).
Representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church was told that more than 5.5 thousand citizens supported construction of the cathedral.
At the same time the petition against construction, signed 3.6 thousands of people. In their opinion, the proximity of the temple complex to the Malaya Zemlya memorial and the Sudzhuk lagoon will significantly violate the proportions of the memorial and “put an end to the unique monument of nature.
The protesters suggested contacting the prosecutor's office and the city administration for clarification on the legality of the start of construction works. At the beginning of the month, they already turned to the Russian authorities with a request prevent the construction of the temple.
