Smolny Cathedral of St. Petersburg transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church

In the Smolny Cathedral of St. Petersburg, concert activities have been stopped, the organ was dismantled, the building was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church.

On January 25, 2016, the authorities of St. Petersburg handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church Smolny Cathedral. Since January, the concert has been stopped in the cathedral activities, and on January 25, the director of the museum-monument "St. Isaac's Cathedral" Nikolai Burov during the solemn ceremony handed over to the representatives of the diocese symbolic keys to the building. On that day, a divine service was held in the cathedral.

The organ located in Smolny was dismantled and in the near future time must be transported to another temple.

It is assumed that the diocese will also be transferred to Sampsonievsky Cathedral, which is also on the balance sheet of the museum. Recall that in 2013 the St. Petersburg the diocese has declared its claim to several buildings.
