The ECHR communicated the complaint of Savva Terentyev

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) communicated the complaint of a blogger who was convicted in 2008 for commenting on "unfaithful cops".

On January 26, 2016, it became known that on January 7, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) communicated the complaint of blogger Savva Terentyev against the sentence under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (actions aimed at inciting hatred on the basis of belonging to a social group, committed in public). The complaint was filed on January 5, 2009.

On July 7, 2008, LiveJournal user Terentyev was sentenced by the Syktyvkar city court to one year of suspended liberty. On February 15, 2007, he left a comment on the blog of local journalist Boris Suranov about his attitude towards " unfaithful cops ", after which the Syktyvkar prosecutor's office opened a criminal case against the blogger. An examination carried out during the trial showed that Terentyev's statement contained a call for violence against the social group "policemen". The Supreme Court of the Komi Republic approved the verdict. Terentiev himself moved to Estonia and received political refugee status there.

We believe that the vague concept of a social group is a source of abuse and should be excluded from anti-extremist articles, and that law enforcement officers are in any case not among the vulnerable social groups requiring protection in the form of anti-extremist legislation.
