Racism and xenophobia. Results of January 2016

In January 2016, we are aware of at least three people affected by racist and xenophobically motivated attacks. IN Moscow in an electric train that ran from the Kievsky railway station to the station "Aprelevka", a was beaten native of Azerbaijan by a group of young people. And in the city of Alexandrov, Vladimir Region, two unidentified persons armed with a knife, attacked the parishioners of the Church of Evangelical Christians (Pentecostals) "Emmanuel".

In the past month, we know of at least three acts of xenophobic vandalism in the Vladimir and Saratov regions and in the Crimea.

In January, the rally activity of the nationalists was low.

It is worth noting the uncoordinated picket of the Russian National front (RNF) on January 3 in support of the arrested Kirill Barabash (IGPR "CALL"). Six people were detained at the rally, including Andrei Savelyev and Nikolai Tishin ("Great Russia"), Elena Rokhlina, Kirill Myamlin (Head of the Institute high communitarianism). In addition to Moscow, there were three single pickets in Kaliningrad.

At the annual action in memory of the dead Russian military, who participated in the storming of Grozny on New Year's Eve 1995, which took place in Yekaterinburg at the Black Tulip on New Year's Eve, only 4 people came. Participants lit candles and held a moment of silence.

In Moscow, with a difference of one day with one agenda and one and two actions were held in the same place - at the Donskoy cemetery in memory of the Cossack chieftains issued by the British to the USSR and executed in 1946-1947 for cooperation with the Nazis. On January 16, the action was carried out by activists of the Committee “Nation and freedom" (Vladimir Basmanov), as well as the "Irreconcilable League". 6 activists laid flowers at the grave of unclaimed ashes, where the remains of the brothers are located Krasnov, Helmut von Pannwitz, Andrey Shkuro, Timofey Domanov and Sultan Giray. The initiator was Denis Romanov-(Russian). January 17 same promotion organized by supporters of the RONA movement, led by Oleg Filatchev.

In January, the most frequent and hottest on the right-wing Internet the topic under discussion was the events that took place on New Year's Eve in Cologne. What happened interpreted even more exaggeratedly than in the official media, and was accompanied by a mass of anti-migrant statements. To draw attention to situation and in an attempt to shift the discussion from European events to Russian realities, various polls were conducted with xenophobic overtones, it was reported data on the number of visitors to Russia and how in a number of European countries sales of weapons “to protect against migrants”, while in Russia the right to carry weapons are severely limited.

Traditionally, the nationalists continued to hold various kinds of raids and try to attract new activists to them. For example, in January 2016 in Petersburg, members of the Lev Against movement attacked a group of teenagers drank alcoholic beverages, they took away the alcohol and poured it out. After that between a skirmish ensued between young people, which turned into a fight. The whole incident was filmed by one of the members of the organization. On right-wing sites emphasis was placed on the fact that teenagers who drank on the street were from the Caucasus, who were called "drunk devils".

In January 2016, at least two convictions in cases of racist violence in which there were four people were convicted in the Astrakhan and Tula regions.

At least 9 sentences were handed down for xenophobic propaganda in 8 regions of the country. In these trials, 9 people were convicted.

Federal list of extremist materials updated three times (January 11, 13 and 21). Items were added to it. 3230 - 3258. These updates included various ultra-right materials, a speech at a rally by a deputy of the Council of the Suojärvi Urban Settlement Vladimir Zavarkin, previously fined for publicly calling for separatism, parody clips of the Ensemble of Christ the Savior and Mother Earth Cheese, songs groups "Warriors of Zion", videos related to the activities of the "Right sector”, a leaflet of the party “Will”, a fragment of another book by K. Petrov “Secrets management of mankind”, various Islamist video files.

January 19, 2016 in 6 cities of Russia was held the annual all-Russian action of memory Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova. In Moscow, according to the estimates of observers of the SOVA center action the , gathered no more than 470 people. Orthodox Christians actively tried to prevent the action activists from the "God's will " movement , led by leader Dmitry (Enteo) Tsorionov, who were detained and put into police buses “with the aim of prevention of provocations against sexual minorities”.
