Uyskoye: the school principal was again brought to justice for poor quality content filtering

In the village of Uyskoye, Chelyabinsk Region, the directors of the second school were held accountable for the poor performance of content filters.

On April 12, 2016, the prosecutor's office of the Chelyabinsk region reported that the Magistrate's Court had fined the director of the Uysk Secondary School named after V. Tikhonov for 5 thousand rubles, having found her guilty of committing an offense under Part 1 of Art. 6.17 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (violation of the established requirements for the distribution among children of information products containing information that is harmful to their health and (or) development).

The administrative case was initiated as a result of a joint check by the prosecutor's office of the Uisky district and the regional department of the FSB, which showed that extremist materials could be accessed from school computers. It is not clear from the prosecutor's report whether content filters were installed on school computers, but we assume that otherwise the prosecutor's office would have indicated their absence.

Earlier in 2016, in the village of Uyskoye, Chelyabinsk Region, a similar case under Part 1 of Art. 6.17 of the Code of Administrative Offenses was initiated against the principal of an elementary school.

We believe that content filtering programs are generally ineffective and school personnel should not be held responsible for this.
