Far-right activists convicted in Engels

In Engels, Saratov region, two ultra-right activists Andrey Nechaev and Alexander Bukrin were convicted.

On May 23, 2016, a court in Engels, Saratov Region, sentenced 18-year-old Andrei Nechaev and 20-year-old Alexander Bukrin. Depending on the role of each of them, they were found guilty under paragraphs “e”, “h”, part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm motivated by national hatred with the use of objects used as weapons), Part 3 of Art. 30 - part 2 of Art. 167 of the Criminal Code (attempted intentional damage to another's property), part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (incitement of national hatred, enmity), part 1 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code (public calls for the implementation of extremist activities), paragraphs "a", "b" part 2 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code (theft).

According to the case file, on November 24, 2014, Bukrin attacked a citizen of Uzbekistan with a knife. In addition, from October to November 2014, Bukrin posted xenophobic video and photo images on the social network VKontakte. Also, on November 17, 2015, he wrote "extremist" inscriptions on the wall in the courtyard of one of the houses on Engels' Freedom Square.

Nechaev from November 2013 to January 2015 made a number of thefts from country houses near the village of Staritskoe, causing damage to the owners in the amount of more than 120 thousand rubles.

On the night of December 6, 2014, Bukrin and Nechaev threw an improvised explosive device into one of the stores on Nesterova Street. The total amount of damage caused by the attackers exceeded 49 thousand rubles. Shortly thereafter, the young people were detained. Bukrin was chosen by the court as a measure of restraint in the form of detention.

The court sentenced Bukrin to 5 years in prison to be served in a general regime colony with a fine of 100 thousand rubles, Nechaev to 2 years in prison to be served in a general regime colony.
