The leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation proposed moving Russia Day to the day of the Baptism of Rus'

The Communist Party submitted to the State Duma a bill to postpone the celebration Day of Russia from June 12 to July 28 - the day of memory of Prince Vladimir and the Baptism of Rus', since baptism played a "historic role in uniting the nations in our country."  

On June 7, 2016, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Gennady Zyuganov announced submission to the State Duma of a bill on the transfer of the celebration of the Day of Russia from June 12 to July 28 is the day of memory of Prince Vladimir and the Baptism of Rus'.

According to him, the Baptism of Russia played a "historical role in uniting peoples in the vastness of our country " , and in addition, it " is recognized all peoples of our multinational country, all religious denominations and all secular society. It will really serve to strengthen our state, spiritual, moral and general political state unity" .
