Ozersk: verdict in case of neo-Nazi vandalism

In June 2016, in ZATO Ozersk, Chelyabinsk Region, a court sentenced two local residents to a suspended sentence and compulsory labor for writing xenophobic graffiti on the facades of houses on two streets of the city.

In June 2016, a verdict was passed in the ZATO Ozersk, Chelyabinsk Region, in the case of inciting ethnic hatred (Part 1, Article 282 of the Criminal Code).

In the dock were two local residents, aged 21 and 19, who, according to the investigation, covered the facades of buildings on Karla Marksa and Oktyabrskaya streets with xenophobic graffiti in January last year.

It was reported that the slogans “Urals are not the Caucasus!”, “No tolerance” and others were stenciled and, among other things, called for violence against people from the Caucasus, Jews and representatives of other ethnic groups.

During the investigation, both young men pleaded not guilty.

The court, however, considered their guilt proved and sentenced the 21-year-old young man to 1 year and 6 months of imprisonment conditionally with a probationary period of 2 years, and his 19-year-old accomplice (at the time of the crime he was still a minor) - to 250 hours of compulsory work .
