In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, an FSB representative is concerned about the activities of Protestants

In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the FSB spokesman stated that the activities of Protestant organizations threaten the security of Russia and contributes to the "strengthening of religious contradictions."  

On June 2, 2016, a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Yugra countering extremist activity. In particular, he took part Deputy Head of the Regional Directorate of the FSB of Russia for the Tyumen Region - Head of the Service for the KhMAO - Yugra Maxim Baranov. In his speech, he expressed concern about the activities of Protestant organizations in the region.

According to him, the ideology religious organizations of non-traditional confessions for Russia, leads to intensification of religious contradictions and, in general, contributes to the emergence of threats security of the Russian Federation in the socio-political sphere” . At the same time, he noted that in relations with the Russian Orthodox Church, local Protestants "observed open opposition" .

Among those operating in the region organizations mentioned the Church of Full Gospel Christians "Voice of Faith", evangelical baptist church, evangelical christian church, Jehovah's Witnesses, Voice of Truth Church, Seventh Adventist Christian Church day, the Full Gospel Church of the Living God Jesus Christ and the Church of Scientology.

The FSB representative is especially concerned about the active preaching and social activities of these organizations, as well as evangelization efforts indigenous peoples of the North.

"IN connection with the low activity of the missionary activity of the ROC MP and other traditional religions among the population, it is predicted the activation of representatives foreign religious groups, including in the direction of increasing the number of adherents,” said M. Baranov. He recommended law enforcement authorities to “verify the legitimacy of the activities of religious organizations, registered in the district, compliance with the statutory activities, and also the presence of prohibited literature " , and the regional department of education and youth policy - checking educational institutions for involvement of minors “in the activities of Protestant religious organizations" .
