The information on the cameleo.ru website was declared prohibited by the Sarapulsky District Court of Udmurtia.
On July 26, 2016, the official representative of Roskomnadzor, Vadim Ampelonsky, announced that the popular anonymizer "Chameleon" (cameleo.ru) was included in the Unified Register of Banned Sites.
The decision of the Sarapulsky District Court of the Udmurt Republic dated May 10, 2016 became the basis for the inclusion of one of the largest anonymizers in Russia in the register. The court agreed with the prosecutor's office that thanks to the information posted on the cameleo.ru website, users get access to websites with extremist materials.
The representative of Roskomnadzor said that if the administration of the service gets in touch with the department, then together they can formulate actions that need to be taken to avoid blocking.
Note that anonymizers themselves do not contain any prohibited information. Access to prohibited materials can also be carried out through other tools, including through a conventional search engine, since it has not yet been possible to completely remove them from the global network - however, this possibility is not a reason to close access to search engines. In this regard, we consider decisions to block anonymizers unlawful.
Nevertheless, the number of cases of blocking anonymizers at the request of the prosecutor's offices of different Russian regions is growing.
