Roskomnadzor entered the Wikisource page with the text "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" into the Unified Register of Banned Sites.
On July 29, 2016, NP "Wikimedia RU" received a notification from Roskomnadzor about the entry of the page of the Wikisource service called "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" into the Unified Register of Banned Sites. According to the department, it contained the text of the "Protocols" recognized as extremist by the decision of the Leninsky District Court of Orenburg and included in the Federal List of Extremist Materials in 2012.
Including this page in the register of banned sites threatens the functioning of Wikisource and Wikipedia in Russian: they are located at the same IP address, and access to projects is carried out via HTTPS, which does not allow blocking a separate page. The page has now been renamed "Minutes of the Meetings of the Learned Elders of Zion" and provided with a note about the conspiracy nature of the text and its value for research on anti-Semitism. Wikisource contributors discuss the advisability of deleting the page.
From our point of view, the prohibition of the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" does not make sense. This is one of the best known anti-Semitic writings and should remain available as a subject of study.
On August 4, 2016, it became known that the Wikisource page "Note on Ritual Murders (Dal)" with the text of this 19th-century pamphlet, also banned by the Leninsky District Court of Orenburg, was also included in the Unified Register of Banned Sites.
