Vandal sent for compulsory treatment

On August 29, 2016, in the Chelyabinsk region, a vandal who painted the swastika and symbols of the Azov Battalion on the monument to the soldiers-liberators was sent for compulsory treatment.

On August 29, 2016, the Magistrate Court of Court District No. 1 of the Varnensky District of the Chelyabinsk Region delivered a verdict in a criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 214 of the Criminal Code (vandalism motivated by political, ideological hatred).

According to the case file, on the night of June 23-24, 2015, in the village of Novopokrovka, Varna district, on Sovetskaya street, a man painted a swastika on the memorial to the soldiers-liberators, and on the stele with the names of the soldiers who fell in the Great Patriotic War - a mirror image of the symbols of the Azov battalion .

For a long time, the intruder, suffering from a mental illness, was hiding from law enforcement agencies; during a search, he was found in his sister's apartment in Yekaterinburg.

The Magistrate's Court recognized as proven the commission of an act prohibited by criminal law in a state of insanity and sent the accused to a medical hospital of a specialized type with intensive supervision, providing psychiatric care.

The decision has not entered into force.
