23 August 2016, it became known that the residents of Rostov-on-Don opposed construction of a temple in the park. Korney Chukovsky.
Rostovites emphasize that they are not so much against the temple as against development of the park area: “ This park is almost the only place for walking and relaxing for children and adults in the area. And they want to take it away from us for the sake of construction Orthodox Church. A few years ago, the park had already been built the Catholic Church, which took over a fair amount of the park. We then couldn't resist it. And two churches in one park is too much! One gets the impression that the construction of churches in the city has become a business, not a way to get closer to God .”
Local residents sent letters protesting against construction to the city administration, the prosecutor's office and the governor of Rostov areas.
