In October 2016, in the Novgorod region, a case was brought to court against a convicted prisoner for a xenophobic video file on a social network.

In October 2016, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Novgorod Region completed the investigation of a criminal case against a 31-year-old convict serving a sentence in a correctional colony in the Novgorod Region. He is charged under Part 1 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code (inciting national hatred or enmity).

According to the investigation, on January 8, 2016, the accused posted a xenophobic video file in the public domain on one of the social networks.

The criminal case was sent to court for consideration on the merits.
