Roskomnadzor: plans to block Linkedin are related to user data leakage

Roskomnadzor through the court seeks to block the LinkedIn social network for violation of Russian legislation on the localization of personal data. This was announced by the press secretary of the department Vadim Ampelonsky, Interfax reports .

“History is extremely simple. We simply respond to media reports that relate to problems of the safety of personal data of Russian citizens. So, since 2010, the LinkedIn network had large scandals related to user data leakage. Therefore, this summer we sent two letters in pre -trial order with a request to provide information on the execution of the law on the localization of personal data in the Russian Federation, ”Ampelonsky said.

According to him, in response, the company sent “two unsubscribes” that did not give an answer on the merits of the questions asked.

“In full accordance with the algorithm of interaction with foreign companies that do not have representation in the Russian Federation, we took advantage of our right to apply to the court. And on August 4, the Tagan court satisfied our lawsuit, deciding to introduce this social network to the register of violators of the rights of personal data subjects, ”Ampelonsky explained.

He specified that the social network appealed this decision in a higher instance, on November 10 the Moscow City Court should consider the appeal.

“They can go further, up to the Supreme Court. But if the decision enters into legal force, then we will bring them to the appropriate register and send the operators a notification of network lock, ”Ampelonsky said.

Recall that amendments to the law “On Personal Data” require the localization of personal data in Russia. Any Russian or foreign company, focused on working with Russian users, should provide recording, systematization, accumulation, storage, clarification of personal data of Russians using databases located in the Russian Federation.
