Obama will discuss sanctions against the Russian Federation with EU leaders in Berlin

European leaders and US President Barack Obama intend to discuss the extension of sanctions against Russia related to the situation in Ukraine and Syria. According to Reuters , the meeting will be held in Berlin.

The meeting will be attended by leaders of Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain.

Earlier it became known that the European Union will extend the sanctions against Russia at a summit in Brussels in December this year, so as not to wait for Donald Trump to enter the President of the United States. The EU believes that if, after the inauguration, Trump establishes relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, it will be more difficult to extend sanctions because of the disagreements within the EU.

“In Ukraine, nothing has changed, there is no reason not to extend the sanctions,” said one of the sources of the agency.

Another source of Reuters said that sanctions against Russia are not the main problem. According to him, it is more important what Trump will do with NATO. “This will have broad consequences for all European security,” the diplomat said.

The current sanctions are valid until March 15, 2017. The decision to extend the validity of restrictive measures should support all 28 EU states.
