Responsibility for the attack was taken by the "National Socialists of the Rostov Region". According to the attackers, they began to follow the journalist back in Moscow, where he, along with his wife the day before the attack, held a meeting with comrades in the Left Bloc.

According to the victim, on December 10, in the very center of Rostov-on-Don, an unknown man with his face covered ran up to him and his wife and grabbed his hand with the words "let's go talk . " He was followed by several more unknown persons in hoods, scarves and masks. They pushed the journalist's wife away, threw Ryazantsev to the ground and started beating him.

The reporter had bruises on the soft tissues of the head and arm. The journalist himself, in his numerous interviews after the incident, put forward several versions of what happened. Ryazantsev did not rule out that the beating could be related to the scandal that erupted after the statements of the speaker of the Chechen parliament Magomed Daudov in relation to the editor-in-chief of the "Caucasian Knot" Grigory Shvedov.
