Kazan: a sentence was passed on the head of the Union of Young Innovation Leaders

On February 1, 2017, in the Republic of Tatarstan, a court sentenced Ramil Ibragimov, head of the Union of Young Innovation Leaders, to a fine of 50,000 rubles for publishing homophobic statements justifying the murder of people in a gay club in the United States.
On February 1, 2017, in the city of Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan was sentenced in a case under Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code (public justification of terrorism), launched against the head of the Union of Young Innovation Leaders Ramil Ibragimov.

Recall that the case was initiated on the fact of the publication by R. Ibragimov on the social network VKontakte and on Instagram of a homophobic statement justifying the massacre in a gay club in the United States. In it, he not only rejoiced at the death of 50 people, but also expressed regret that another 53 people were able to survive, despite their injuries.

It is noteworthy that he made this statement not only on his own behalf, but also stated that the Union of Young Innovation Leaders " sincerely supports this convincing action ." This was the reason for the prosecutor's office to start checking the Union itself.

The trial became quite loud due to the fact that R. Ibragimov's defense demanded that ex-US President Barack Obama be summoned to court as a defense witness.

During the process, the lawyers insisted on reclassifying the case from justifying terrorism to inciting hatred (Article 282 of the Criminal Code), arguing that R. Ibragimov did not know that the mass murder in a gay club was recognized as a terrorist act, and also insisting that that their client does not approve of terrorism, but simply hates homosexuals. R. Ibragimov confirmed his hatred for people with a non-traditional orientation at the trial, stating that: " God's punishment was accomplished by the hands of the shooter, who for some reason went to this act . "
The court left the original qualification of the case under Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code, found R. Ibragimov guilty and fined 50 thousand rubles. In addition, the convict's iphone was confiscated as the subject of the crime.
