Residents of Obninsk are protesting against the construction of a temple near the Physical and Energy Institute named after A.I. Leipunsky.
On February 2, 2017, it became known that the inhabitants of Obninsk were protesting against the construction of an Orthodox church near the Physico-Energy Institute named after A.I. Leipunsky.
The initiator of the construction was institute director. He sees the future temple as a monument to "those who have dedicated themselves peaceful atom.
At the same time, more than a hundred citizens, who came to public hearings on the construction of the temple, are dissatisfied with this idea.
“ We are not against the temple. But not in the same place! You see what small area! Our house is located right a few steps from him. And what will happen here? Services will be held, people will be buried. And it's all under our windows? And where will the parishioners park their cars? Here are some places now No! You know, there is a saying - "the idea is seductive, but the implementation is embarrassing" , - said one of participants in public hearings.
According to the townspeople, the temple should be built elsewhere and it is not at all necessary to dedicate it to physicists, many of whom were atheists.
