Racism and xenophobia. Results of January 2017

In January 2017, from xenophobically motivated attacks injured at least five people in St. Petersburg and Rostov areas.

In the past month, we are aware of two acts of xenophobic vandalism in the Chelyabinsk and Amur regions.

By the end of January, the right-wing Internet again videos with scenes of racist attacks began to circulate actively. So on right-wing sites and blogs, a link appeared to two posted on yuotube video of attacks on people of "non-Slavic appearance" (attacks allegedly took place in St. Petersburg in December 2016 and January 2017). Probably, Roman (Zukhel) Zheleznov (with 2014 in Ukraine). On one of the sites, simultaneously with the videos, there was a statement with threats against a Novaya Gazeta journalist was published. week later there were videos of attacks on people from Central Asia, published on behalf of the far-right Sparrows Crew.

In January, the rally activity of the nationalists was extremely low. Committee "Nation and Freedom" held a picket against the "package Spring” and demanding the release of Eldar Dadin, Dmitry Demushkin and Alexander Belova. The action was announced as all-Russian, but took place only in Saratov and brought together only six people.

It is worth mentioning the single pickets held by the Liberal Democratic Party in defense of Dmitry Demushkin near the building of the Moscow City Court. Deputy of the State Duma Vasily Vlasov was in court over the leader of the Russian movement. The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party personally spoke in defense of Demushkin Vladimir Zhirinovsky: video of his speech in the State Duma actively distributed in the "right Internet".

In January 2017, at least 11 sentences in 11 regions of the country. In these trials, 11 people were convicted. Among among them is the well-known St. Petersburg nationalist Nikolai Bondarik, who was sentenced to five years in prison on probation for publishing a xenophobic post in social network.

In January, judgments and decisions were made on administrative articles of the Code of Administrative Offenses. In Moscow, under Art. 20.29 The Code of Administrative Offenses (distribution of extremist materials) fined the ultra-right neo-pagan Dmitry Melash for posting on a social network, a video recording of a Skype conversation in which the pagan was in T-shirt with the symbols of the Azov Battalion.

The federal list of extremist materials has been updated once in January. On January 25, 2017, items were added to the list. 4016 - 4022. The list was replenished various xenophobic materials from the VKontakte social network.

On January 19, 2017, was held the annual all-Russian action in memory of Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia in 9 cities of Russia Baburova. The events were held in 9 cities, but remained almost unnoticed and did not become numerous. In Moscow, according to the estimates of the observers of the SOVA center, the action gathered about 380 people. Detentions of protesters and their opponents were recorded in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Murmansk.
